3197219 is a Jeep Corp part number. Looking online, nothing I see points to a 304 flywheel for that number. You can search for "AMC Jeep 3197219" and look at the same pages that I'm looking at. If it's a 360 flywheel as some sources say, the 360 is pretty close to the 304, both having the same crank.

I would disregard those other numbers, since I would expect them to be specific to the foundry and not indicative of anything specific to the engines.

It's possible that's the casting number, and the specific flywheel is balanced by removing material.

    My '74-80 book says a 304 flywheel for '74-79 is a 3212651. For 1980, 3236523.

I recall that the '71 304 is a different crank flange, and those flywheels won't work for other years. From '72 on, the balance is the same and they should all be compatible, for a specific displacement.

What's wrong with the flywheel you have now?

Hmm. A V8 always stops in the same 4 locations. Maybe it's ok to rotate the ring gear by say 1/8th turn and put good teeth where the starter will engage. Ask your local automotive machine shop.

Why not just replace the ring gear? If it is removable. Not sure but I think my 304 has a replaceable ring. probably not anywhere near as expensive as replacing the whole flywheel.

I had the same issue with teeth being ground down. Replacing the gear is really quite easy if you have access to a torch. It took maybe 15 minutes at most to swap them out and those gears are readily available. If you want to see how it is done look it up on Youtube there are alot of videos

I took the lazy man’s way since having my flywheel resurfaced anyway and let the machine shop change the ring gear. Crown sells them. Think I ordered it from summit. I don’t care for the brand but no issues in a few years now.

I Also found them at Morris 4x4. If I remember correctly they are about 36 dollars.
Crown brand, so?? They have a good costumer chat, they will go measure parts for you before you order.
