Powe brakes were commonly available for at least a decade before disc brakes became common. No reason you can't run a power booster with 4 wheel drums.

Is it recommended to use the appropriate residual pressure valve for either disc or drum at the MC?

A '74 came with optional power brakes. If you found a wreck you could take everything needed. There is no difference in the master cylinder power or not, except for the pocket in the piston that accepts the push rod.

New or reman boosters for these Jeeps are NLA, as I recall. If your were broken, you'd need to send it in to a specialty shop for repair.

I would mention - the power brake booster on one of these Jeeps is not simply applied to the firewall. There is an additional bracket and link that places the cylinder away from the firewall. You can see this bracket in a conversion kit from Jegs - https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/631489/10002/-1

IIRC this is similar to the later Jeep booster setup (YJ? TJ?) - possible you could pick parts from a Wrangler (or CJ-7) and use a drum-drum master cylinder.

If they're NLA, I reckon, in order to help more, which new power brake unit did you use ?

Did you decide which way to go on the brake booster?
I have a 73 that came with factory power steering and power brakes, four wheel drums. I recently had the front axle completely rebuilt because it was trashed and they converted it over to front disk, 1979 parts. I still have the original power brake booster and master cylinder. I will either have to send it off for a rebuild or get an aftermarket setup. I wasn't sure if the aftermarket one would fit. It should, I guess? For all intents and purposes, the brake system is a 1979. The jeep is in complete teardown mode right now so I can't test fit anything. I will replace the brake lines and add a proportioning valve because the old system didn't have one.
