Yeah, that is the first thing I noticed too, looks like it might be a bit darker along the edge where the hood fits. Makes me wonder if the jeep might have been parked where the sun had faded it. But I dought the jeep has ever been parked outside much at all with it appearing to be so rust free and in such good shape overall. Really nice to see that engine bay looking so factory original. The only change I can see is looks like the starter solonid has been moved from the right fender to the firewall. Also the horn has been moved from the stock location on the left fender. The horn assy would shake back and forth where it was bolted until it broke out a hole in the fender. I can see where that happened on your fender. That is probably why the solonid was moved to the fire wall as well.
I think there probably is a paint and interior code somewhere on the firewall, not sure but it may be on the passenger side near the battery. I will look on my 74, see if I have a code plate somewhere. Really nice jeep, glad you found and rescued it.

I would have already done that, but my mom has been in hospital all week. She is coming home for hospice care today. I've been by her side for weeks now and couldn't take a chance of not being here. She lost my dad back in February. It's been a tough year.

Sorry to hear about your family. That is a tough watch, been there myself with both of my parents and my wifes parents. The wife and I will remember you in the coming days. Jim

Got it. Well after arguing with the delivery driver who could not speak good English. He refused to bring it to my house because he thought trees would scratch other vehicles on his load. I tried to tell him I would come down and lead him in, but he demanded I come and have it towed home. Well I'm not in much of a good mood right now and about to explode. I called his dispatcher, who also was hard to understand and told him to have his driver stay put until I got down there, about ten miles away. Had to push the fire truck off the trailer, hook up and head out. Then to find the driver demanding I pay in advance before he off loaded. I showed him the money order covering my balance and told him if he didn't put my jeep on the dirt, he wasn't getting paid. A few minutes of healthy dialog and the jeep was off loaded. Overall it's in great shape and the 258 purrs like a kitten. In the li.ited driving around my pasture, it feels very strong. I'm sure the gearing is somewhere in the low 300's but it steers and shifts great, light work, heater motor doesn't work, flashers do,light do. Not sure about wipers as the knob was missing. More follow up tomorrow if it's not raining sideways like it is now. Did I mentioned it poured when I got there and all the way back and during the test drive? I love it, but I did find a major problem. More about that tomorrow. You'll have to wait.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier. My mom passed this Tuesday and I've been bust planning for her burial on the 7th. She was a good woman and I call her the sheep dog mom. If you understand that, it makes sense, she always protected her flock of kids and family. No matter where we were in location or life, she was always there to round us up and keep our heads on straight. A great lady, who lived a very full life.

So the big surprise with this one, was the sheet of plywood in the bed. There was a set of door frames and soft top bows laying on top and when moved away, revealed some absolutely unexplained cuts in the floor. I know they did a tank replacement and I've seen the typical hole cut, toreplace a sending unit before, but have no idea why the holes were cut along the sides. It almost appears they were going to remove the entire floor as the cuts appear to go forward and to the rear as well. I send a message to the seller, who replied that I did not ask to see under the wood, so it was my fault for not coming to see it in person. Not what I expected to hear, but I'm not really in a place to continue on with the conversation. My next message was, where is the title and BOS that you promised to send out when you received the cashiers check. I was told they had a family emergency, which I know full well is a possibility. But how does a Jeep arrive a little over a week from pickup, but a overnight envelope is still not in my hands three days after I get the vehicle ???? She shortly thereafter sends me a receipt from the USPS showing tracking info, but not the date it was sent ? Oh well live and learn. These were certainly not true jeep people, rather someone that flipped a Jeep.

So whats the guess on why the rear floor was cut like this. Possible seat hardware removal. Or floor replacement or lack of knowledge on tank removal. I ordered the replacement floor from Classic same day, but have no plans to replace it right away. The existing floor was 100 percent rust free, prior to hack job.

I do agree the original color may have been copper poly now, after seeing it in person. That color is outstanding when its freshly painted. It will be repainted copper poly when the time comes.

Sorry to hear about your mother. Our mom was a real sheep dog to us and the grandkids too. Made sure we were always in line with where we should be. She has been gone 18 years, not a day passes when I don't miss her.
As far as the jeep floor panel, looks unusal with it being painted another color back there. Maybe the panel has been removed, cut and reinstalled for mounting some sort of special equipment. Further inspection may reveal more clues.

Not sure the floor has ever been replaced. When it stops raining long enough to throw some cardboard down, I'll crawl under it for a closer look. I was thinking maybe, they couldn't figure out how to pull the tank out, so they were going to cut the floor and remove it ?????

It appears they cut a smaller one just above the sender, maybe in a attempt to address whatever problem they were facing ?

Condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mom.
It's a shame about that floor, that Jeep came from a very arid part of sw Colorado so I bet there's little rust.

Thank you sir. Lost my dad in Feb. Now my mom. It's been worse than 2020 so far. This Jeep is pretty much rust free. I was shocked when I saw the cuts. What's killing me is why?
