Alright guys, some of you were helping me out a few months ago to try and figure out what tranny and Tcase I have in my jeep. I finally got a chance to get under the jeep and look today, and take a couple measurements. The bellhousing is a little over 8 inches long if I'm measuring it in the right place. Also, there is some sort of port on the driver side that is held on by several bolts. I didn't check the passenger side, so I don't know if there is a cover there too. The T-case has 4H-2H-N-2L I believe, if going from the front to the back.

Help me figure out what I've got guys, this stuff needs some rebuilds.

Based on reading your previous post, I would agree with 73cj5's conclusion.

    I'm with Tim, T18 and a D20. The T18 is a very strong tranny.

Novak, Herm, regular Jeep parts places like Walcks. Check the buyers comments section.

Re the TC, depends on your budget and what you want. If it were mine, I'd take it apart and inspect it, and at least replace gaskets and seals. The 20 can be improved with better low range gearing, either with aftermarket gears (Tera) or the Bronco/Dana 18 gear mix. The Tera gears have a better ratio (3.15) but the Bronco/Dana 18 is cheaper.

Got a quick question on a motor swap. I see some guys are running FI 4.0 motors in their CJ5s. Is this a pretty straight forward swap? I'd like to get FI, as I'm sick of dealing with the carb, and I'd really like a V8, but that's a lot more money than I'm wanting to spend. What all would I need to the do the swap? obviously I need the motor, flywheel, clutch, wiring harness, computer, and some other stock goodies, what about provisions for the crank sensor? I read on one of the sites describing this swap that a new bellhousing can be had that my T18, at least that's what I think it is, will bolt to and have hookups for the CPS. What about the VSS? I think I read that one is required and it goes on the T-case? How would I go about hooking that up?

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

It's a good one. The 4.0L has basically the same block as the 258, with a larger bore. Same bellhousing pattern, same mounts. Easy, as engine swaps go.

There are web sites and a forum about this swap. It has been discussed on this board before - use search to find.

Alright guys, here's the pics. Didn't know what exactly to take pics of, so here's a bunch of em.

I know it's messy. The jeep sat for 18 years before my uncle gave it to me. It's getting ready for a complete makeover. The tub is coming off, all the rust is going to be repaired, frame sandblasted and painted or powdercoated, probably going to drop in a 4.0 while it's torn apart as well [IMG]
