The ignition switch on my 67 CJ5 was hanging by the wires under the dash. I didn't have a key for it anyway so ordered a new switch. The new switch was exactly like the one hanging there, and both are exactly like the ones in my two flat fender Jeeps.

I wired it up and put it in the hole in the dash before noticing the hole was a good deal larger than the switch. I was able to get it tight enough that it doesn't move much, but would like to have one that actually fits.

At first I thought maybe someone had enlarged the hole, so I went down to the barn and got the dash panel from my 67 parts Jeep and it has the same size hole. I am wondering if the correct switch has a larger barrel, or if I am missing a part.

I searched many on-line sources for the correct switch. They either sell the same thing I already have, or one that is for a later model with blade connectors, and I am not sure either will fit because none of the listing state the size of the thing.

I was looking at that ignition switch yesterday, but there’s other stuff higher on the list.
Let me know if it works please.

    Thanks,
    Andy

I had the same issue with installing a replacement switch on my '56. I may see if I can get something a bit more sturdy to replace the "nut" that presses on the back side of the dash. It seems no matter how I adjust that "nut" and the bezel, the switch still moves a bit. Works ok, however.

It is the one listed for $32.95 and described as fitting the 1" hole. The others are like was used in CJ2A and fit a 3/4" hole. They say you can use a spacer to make the smaller on fit, but not sure it wouldn't still want to turn.

I found a NOS ignition switch off eBay. Has the screw terminals on the back. I think it was $55 USD, been a few years

I got a generic one at Napa that has been great. I think I just asked for a generic dash mount ignition switch. Came with keys and I've been using it for about 5 years.

Make a plate with the right diameter hole and glue it to the backside of the dash. The bezel should cover the oversized hole.

Your ' DasHole ' ( Get it , LoL ) is most likely missing it's ' Tab ' Get one of these, mount it on the backside of your dash. The ' Notch ' on the cylinder barrel will slide through the ' Tab ' & keep your ignition switch from spinning. Get This :

Richie has it. There is supposed to be a tab in the dash hole that fits a notch in the ignition switch to keep the switch from rotating. It should be at the top of the switch hole. His linked washer, though not correct, fixes the issue of different size holes.
I think by '66 and '67, the switches used a modular spade-lug plug on the back. Up through '65/early-'66 used individual screw-on terminals.
Roy (beachbum) has the correct switch with the chrome flat-sided retainer nut, and the elusive Jeep logo octagonal key.
