Question for the experts. I’ve read on a few threads that the crossmember changed from 74 to 75. The pictures I’ve seen from the 72-74 look different than my 75. Can anyone verify this and maybe any other significant changes for 75?

Asking because I’m getting ready to do a T18 trans swap and will be playing with the crossmember.

    Thanks

'74 and '75 are different part number, but I expect they aren't particularly different. Frame is the same, engines are the same, transmissions and transfer case are the same. Maybe some incremental improvement, but nothing substantive. Post a pic of where you see a difference. Are you thinking of '76? Everything changes for '76, and the frame and cross member are very much different. Anyway, why do you care? If you are doing a conversion, you can make it the way you want it.

My apologies if that came off as rude, wasn’t my intention. I guess I should explain that I’m trying to use as many factory/ off the shelf parts as possible on my build.

Well, can you show us the area of your concern? Bolt on? You mean using factory parts? I suspect that, unless you have a donor Jeep with the transmission and mount parts, the pieces to mount a T-18 like the factory would won't be available. I expect the only part that will be available from the aftermarket is the rubber insulator.

I guessed that's what you meant. Again, I would expect these factory parts you want to use just won't be available except from a wreck of the same year with the same drive train that you want to convert to. These Jeeps don't have the parts support of popular passenger cars.

I’ve spent hours under the Jeep with a tape measure and the crossmember I have looks like it’ll need to be hacked up to clear the transfer case. The current mount goes from the T15 to the crossmember and the new mount for the T18 is mounted on the adapter that’s between the TC and T18. If that makes any sense. I think a few other guys that did the T15 to T18 swap said they just had to move their cross back one set of holes and it all bolted up. Mine doesn’t look like that would work. Worst case I just use a universal crossmember, probably better and stronger in the long run. Thanks

    Parts book diagram.
The bracket at the bottom is cast and heavy.
It bolts thru the rear of the cross member and supports the mount.
Does your cross member have the holes for this bracket ?

That definitely looks way different than what I have from the factory. Thanks for the picture

    To the original question...

They only difference I am aware of are the additional brackets that triangulate to the top of the frame.

grab a transmission mount from a scout, it makes a very nice substitute for the original cast iron adapter. Photos of mine in my build thread.
