So I decided to pull the old jeeps out of the Shed and fix one to drive around and fix two to go check cows. All Cj6s 72-75 years.

I am wanting power brakes and power steering and smaller steering wheel since I don't fit in them as I used to.

    Whats the best route.
I got 3 parts Jeeps around that I think I can get parts off of.
75 CJ6 304 V8 Power Steering and Power Booster (Probably want to rebuild it but not sure who can do the booster and steering box)
72 Commando 304 V8. Power Steering Manual Brakes
72 Commando 304 V8 Power Steering Power Brakes.

I think one of the three will be easy but can I use the commando parts.

If you have a '75 CJ-6 with both power steering and brakes, that will act as the simplest donor. The steering pump and gear is easy; they are standard Saginaw parts used on millions of GM cars and trucks. You should have a 4-bolt gear - if you exchange it for a reman, insist on a 4-bolt gear in exchange.

The power booster and parts will bolt in, but likely you cannot exchange for a reman since there are no cores. I would have this booster rebuilt at a specialist shop - look online for a shop near your. These shops cater to the classic car trade, and can rebuild your core trivially.

I would be sad to see the bus wheel go. Better to change the seat mounts and move the seat back - easy in a CJ-6. An aftermarket wheel looks strange on that column. Better to swap to a '76-up Saginaw column or an aftermarket hot rod column.

Figured Id swap it on the first one to get running. The other two are cheaper builds that I am building to replace my Polaris Rangers. Will the commando parts work for that or is it easier to start with something else

Can't say from experience. The Commando is very similar but not the same. All the AMC V8s from that era will have the same steering gear and steering pump with brackets. The frame bracket may be different - you can buy the factory parts book that covers the Commandos and compare part numbers to the CJs. Faxon sells it. A different part number will confirm that it's different, but won't tell you whether it's compatible. Probably not, if different.

The booster may be the same, but the brake pedal lashup is probably different. Compare part numbers in the factory parts book or compare side-by-side.

JMO - parts from Commandos are scarce and may be valuable to the right owner. More than a few owners have added power brakes to these Jeeps using later or hot rod parts. Using easily obtained parts from an aftermarket source seems like a better plan to me. Search old posts and I expect you'll find some helpful threads.
