    Hey guys,

Doing some cleanup on my '72 (November 71 mfg) CJ5. I am seeing what appears to be a sticker that was painted over, and would love to know what it is.

It sits about an inch over the steering column plate, is about 1" tall and 3-3/8" wide. May be black and white?

Also, if anyone has a good picture of a stock 72 dash, that would be much appreciated.

    Nice renegade!

It took some effort, but i added the two pictures i just took. What is the sticker in the top left of your dash? It appears to be about the right size.

Anyway, that's a '73 according to its features. '73 was the last year for the V8 badges and the first for those knobs and heater controls. I don't know what the sticker by the dash pad is, and there's no factory sticker in the location that the OP points to, AFAIK. All sorts of things are added by owners. Your VIN sticker is there, moved up to accommodate the optional factory gauges, in their correct original location.

If you look at the wiring diagrams in the '72 TSM, they will show you where the original controls were located. Unique to that year AFAIK they are 3D perspective drawings of the wiring from behind the dash. An example -

Whoa, Tim. Awesome. Is there a '72 TSM online somewhere? I have the '74 in digital form that you always share, but obviously there are a few differences.

On my 1972 it had a sticker in that location that said: disengage the front axle drive when operating on dry hard surface roads. This matches the size and shape you described. The hub sticker you have was located on the inside of the glove box door.

Here is a picture of a stock 1972 Renegade dash. The only add on for this dash is the switch on the bottom left of the dash.
    I hope this helps.

Sorry for my error in my last post. The 3 holes to the right of the light switch and below the VIN sticker were also added. The hole to the left of the hazard switch is for the wiper switch. I need to wear my glasses.
