Hey guys, I have a sm420 and the shifting was terrible. I pulled motor trans/ transfer case. Question, what I'm looking at is a small bushing like sleeve behind throw out bearing. Its smashed, and has a crack. What is this? Shouldn't there be just the threads of the input shaft sticking out? By the casting numbers I believe the transmission is 1964 or 54.. casting numbers are 3837334 and k134.. is that bump at 6oclock mean it's a 54 with no seal?

    Thanks ,
    Chris

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    Can't tell what that is/was.
Can't think of anything that should be there.
    Remnants of something old ?

When you say "behind," you mean between the throwout bearing and the transmission? The throwout bearing (and sleeve) slides on the tube that sticks out from the front bearing retainer of the transmission. There should be nothing else on that tube. As mentioned, maybe something left behind from the donor? Possibly part of a badly-worn bearing/sleeve that was on the donor?

    "Threads," you mean splines?

Yeah, what I'm thinking is its what's left of the input cover.... but there was nothing in the bell housing. This thing is totally rigged, so I'm not convinced..

Hey timgr, what I mean is that piece was behind the throw out bearing.. on the shaft. Yeah, I was talking about the splines.
    Thank you,

    Chris
