9203D324-B112-456A-B947-F1D874866FBE.jpeg Looking for a little help here, as I’m clearly doing something wrong. I have a 2G in a 198 Buick oddfire. Chart says float level of 21/32 and float drop of 1-29/32. Converting those to decimals, I get 0.65625 and 1.90625 (I’m using digital calipers, so it’s easier for me to work with decimals).

the drop is what is perplexing me. If I use 1.906 as my drop (measured from the gasket to the seam of my brass float), that puts the bottom of the float at about 2.3 inches from the gasket. the bowl itself is only 1.88, so that means the float will bottom out well before it completes its downward travel. What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks. I had seen that. He doesn’t actually show the measurement for drop. He just says “measure from here down to here”

I assume he’s talking about the gasket to the seam, but that still seems strange to me as the float would hit the bottom of the bowl well before finishing it’s drop travel.

Found this video. He says drop is measured to the bottom of the float, which makes more sense.

Don't get too wrapped up in the float drop spec. The float height measurement is the important setting. The float height setting is where the needle closes the fuel flow when the bowl fills, bottoming out the needle in the seat. This controls the "full" level of the bowl.
The drop measurement generally only keeps the float off the bottom of the bowl so it doesn't bang around when the bowl is low, or otherwise jamb causing the float to stick open.
A ballpark setting for the float height is when the carb top is turned up-side-down, the top of the float (now the bottom side in this position) is roughly parallel to the gasket surface of the carb top.
I always test the needle/seat operation by blowing into the fuel feed pipe (yes, usually by mouth) as I operate the float up, then down, making sure only very light pressure pushing up on the float makes a seal, stopping the air flow. This "test" is done with the separate carb top in its normal orientation as it would be installed on the carb body.
I prefer the viton rubber tipped needles as opposed to the original all brass needles as they seal more effectively, and don't wear as quickly.

I’m in the process of rebuilding a 2g now. I see the float adjustment is 1-5/32” so that one inch and 5/32. When I adjust it to that my float is no where near level. Could it possibly be 15/32. ?

Page 7 of the link above shows the same 1-5/32 measurement. It also says “see note 6” which says the measurement is “from gasket to top of float at toe end”

Okay from gasket to top of float would be 1 inch and 5/32. That seems a lot the float is still not near level. Am I interpreting that correctly? It’s not 15/32” ?

It's 1 -5/32. With gasket on measured to toe of composite float or bottom of seam on the brass float.

That’s exactly what I did. I have the brass float and I set It to 1 inch and 5/32 to the seam in The float
