Help me out here boys, I need to change out the engine mounting plate, so the timing gears need to come off to do this, I have a gear/pully puller, and a harmonic balancer/gear puller but none can get ahold of the fiber gear on the camshaft enough to pull it. no clearance in the rear, just the two 'holes' in the gear itself, to close together for the puller, to far apart for the harmonic puller. no way to 'grab' it enough.

???? Ideas would help, otherwise I'll have to use brute force and bust it up and replace. The gear by the way is brand new.

It's been over 20 years since I worked on the front-end of an F-head, so
I need help making it all come to me again.

    Thanks, Rob

The two holes in the gear are there for the puller 'ears" to fit into. Get a puller that fits, or you might have to modify one to fit. This is a fairly straight forward procedure, once you find the right puller. The gear is'nt meant to be pulled from the edges. There are pullers made just for gears like this

Thanks Kelly, that's what I thought.

Been suffering from the parts store counter help's 'deer in the headlights' glaze when I ask these questions. Had to go to three diff, offroad stores
just to find the gear in stock.

    Thanks, Rob

If the gear on the cam is of the fiber variety, I would treat it as a throwaway IMHO. At least I've never been successful in getting one off without dinging it up pretty well in the process.
