So what are you seeing in travel from full bump to full droop? and how is that split ? what length shock?

 

That's where the forklift comes in.... It is just too stormy to drag the jeep out. My standard floor jack with a 4x4 on top cant max it out. Any more than a 4x4 block on the jack makes me nervous..... Before I can roll it out, a new tie rod and drag link need to be made since the D30 is wider than my old D27. .188 wall DOM is on order.

 

Do you have an engine hoist? (Or is that your forklift?) You can run a strap through the slots in your wheels and use a hoist if you have one handy.

 

No engine hoist here. Forklift is my lift of choice.

Where I'm at right now.
I need to order some warrior 4 degree caster shims. The old man emu shims are about 2 degrees, and between the 4 that came on the springs only two of them were really 2 degrees. I put them on the rear springs. The other two are pretty much garbage. I'll post a pic when I take them off.

Front U bolt flip is complete. I made sure that I rounded the leading/ trailing edges of the lower plates down so that they didn't bind the springs. No comparison pic available right now, but the U bolt skid plates that Rocky road uses protrude about 1-3/8" below the springs. My U bolt retainers only protrude 3/4" below the springs.



Here is the current stance. 23" to the rocker on the front, 23-1/4" on the rear with 15 gal of fuel in jugs in the back. 31" advertised tire that measures 29.5 in reality.
Shackles are 3-3/8" on center length. These springs are really soft, I have a feeling that I will end up going with a 4" on center shackle for the rear to maintain ride height when full of fuel and full ice chest.


Resting fender to tire height clearance is 7.5"



This is as high as my jack will allow me to go right now. The right front bump stop is about 1/2" from bottoming out. Of course there will be much more leverage when the tire is on an object creating the upward force.



Left front tire near full flex. This is as high as my jack allows. You can see in the picture above that the shackle is not completely rotated to the rear. I am thinking that this front fender distance will increase by 1-2" when the spring is completely hanging.



Right front fender clearance. The tire tucks perfectly into the front fender. The straight edge shows the measurement to the outer lip, about 1-1/2" This will likely be about 1/2-3/4" when fully flexed, but will never contact the fender due to the tire tucking inside the lip. The tire is about 1" inside the lip already thus the need for the straight edge.



The Right front bump stop still has some more room to go. My plan is to change to the XJ bump stops shown earlier.

 

Please send me a set of those rock rails/steps. Exactly what I want for my Project!!
Is that Aluminum or just not painted yet?

 

They are .250 wall 1-1/2" aluminum tube and 5/16" aluminum angle. I had them made by a local chassis fabricator. We had the same guy copy them out of steel, lighter weight of course, for Steve's 71 project. 3/16" angle and .095 1-1/2" DOM. The steps really help with entry and exit!
You aren't that far away from 5 Flags Speedway. I'm sure that there is a race car shop close to you that could copy this.

So far there aren't any pictures of me checking for square on page 18.......... Taking care of that now.
Didn't have much time last night, but I measured everything up one final time. I started with the main eyes and went out from there. It's perfect. Tonight all of the brackets will get burned in place along with the frame web pieces I made.

 

I really like your stance, even if it drops slightly in the rear it will still look good.

Just Curious Scott.......Obviously someone must have checked to see if they would bottom out before the suspension did?........Fronts can use a longer shock if you do some work up front to stuff the tire up a little higher in Bump.........rears are normally shorter...

 

is that a mirror mounted to the hood?

 

I did find that out. I had the rear on the front and could feel it bottom out.
