T86 Rebuild

Hi, is a t86 just like the t90 to rebuild watched youtube vidio on how to rebuild t90 . have seen on here that the t90 and t86 are about same novacks dont sell rebuild kit for t86 will t 90 parts work thank in advance

 

The T-86 has important differences to the T-90. The 1st and R gears are helical in the T-86, and the T-90 gears are straight cut. The main shaft splines on the T-86 spiral, but the T-90 splines are straight.

You can use all the gears of a T-90 to rebuild a T-86. All the parts from inside the T-90 case goes into the T-86, and it becomes a T-86 on the outside and a T-90 inside. No other mixing of parts is allowed.

Parts support for the T-86 is limited.

The process of rebuilding is the same as the T-90, if you have all the T-86 parts you need and they are in good condition. But no mixing parts between T-90 and T-86.

My guess is that there are differences in the kit. You can buy a T-86 small parts kit. Crown Automotive T86 Transmission Small Parts Kit - T86AA

See if the bearing numbers are the same from Crown.

I have a t-86 that was just removed and replaced with a t-18. The unit is a low mileage rebuild by the PO that we partially disassembled for inspection. I can send you any detail pictures that may help you out when I get back home this weekend.
