My single windshield is smashed, I want to install the split style.

Is it as easy as I think or are the frames different from single to split style?

I searched but could not find info on the frames.

'Split" as in the military M38a1 version, or split as in the fold out ventilating windshield?

If military then the same frame, just a rubber strip down the middle between the two pieces of glass. No real advantage to this.

If ventilating then the outer frame is the same piece but you'll need to source the inner frame, hinges, arms & latches- easier to find the completes setup, which is neither easy or cheap.

Source an M38A-1 military gasket with the bonded center divider as part of the gasket. I've found these a bit more difficult to install the glass in due to the square corners.

Edit: I just saw the photo with your name, and its a flat-fender. The info above applies to a CJ5/6.
The flat-fender Jeeps use different windshield frames depending on the model. 2A had a square corner/two-piece glass, and the 3A and 3B used a 1 piece glass with round corners. No real options with original type windshield gaskets. The CJ5/6/M38A-1 use a wider windshield than the flat fender models.

You will most likely pay more for two pieces of glass then for one. The split window gasket costs quite a bit more then a roll of standard gasket.

And the single glass is much safer. No blind spot due to the gasket in the middle of your field of view.

I welded a strip of flat stock down the center of mine and used standard gasket material whatever the glass shop provided.
