it is quite complicated to make, better to find one in good condition. Except if you use an other technology, only one glass / in one part. The positionning system must also be adapted. Use a glass with no curbs around, it is really more expensive.
better put something rectangular even if a little bit smaller.
Anyway it is not useful to see well, you never drive fast! :p

Even an average height 5'-9" and up person has a problem seeing out the limited area of glass without lowering seats or other modifications...............Don't get me wrong I like the Idea and the venting and even had one once and then sold it........For a early CJ5 that is driven allot I am a big fan of the 69 and later curved glass frame and lower wiper motor.

DeBellas had them; they were around $800... No glass or seals installed. Could save on shipping if you had him bring one to an MVPA show...

I always liked the way the vented windshield looked on this built rig:

I think the 'fit and finish" detailing would be a bear. I got mine NOS off ebay for way less than I could ever begin make one.

It would be cool if someone with the facility to do it could manufacture new ones.

I made a windshield for my 1960 DJ 3, back in the 80's, it was not too hard, you could make a frame and attach it to a CJ 5 without too much trouble I think. For some reason I can't get the picture from PB

I do have to say there's a lot less buffeting around my head with it cracked open- lets not forget why these were developed way back in the day . Long before Jeeps were thought of roads were mostly dirt & in the summer pretty dusty. While windshields kept the wind & bugs out of your face on the early open top cars they set up a lot of turbulence that tended to suck dust into the area of relative calm behind the windshield- not for nothing did old-timey drivers wear Dusters. It was found that by cracking the windshield open a bit at the high pressure area at the bottom you could still keep the bad stuff out of your face but the air flow from the bottom, which mostly flows up the inside face of the windshield, largely reduced the dust sucking.

I like that term, "Dust Sucking" that is what it amounts to. When riding on Michigan's dirt roads in the spring, before dust control is done, we get covered with dust, clouds fly off my dog when I pat her on the back. The fix is to put the windshield down to stop the Dust Sucking.

Befeore WWII, many ordinary cars enjoyed this same feature.

On a hot day it is a delightfully cool and gentle circulation inside the car, far more enjoyable than A/C.

Better not to open too much, except at very low speed, because insects come in front.:watch::cool: Or dust and more if you follow a car on a track:whistle:.

I found that out on my motorcycle years ago , I am allergic to bees and always ride with a windshield for protection. In a downpour the air spills off either side and swirls around, but the wind seems to create a vacuum behind it the causes the backside of your legs and lower back to get wet, without the shield the front gets wet. Stumbled across this the other day while looking for facts to back up my pseudo intellectual wild-assed assertations-

    Wow.
And I thought windshields just pushed the air away.
