Does an '81 D30 have 5-bolt or 6-bolt hubs? Also, I know this may sound crazy, but can you convert it to drum brakes? It's just that I don't want to have to convert the MC to a dual-resevoir unit and all of that right now. What do you guys think?

81's have the five bolt hub. But yes, you can convert to drums if you find the hubs, drums and backing plates off a 72 or later D30 with drums.

It would be easier to do mc cost wise unless you have an extra d30 with drums lying around !!

If you do have a donor axle, when you switch to the drums you can switch to the better 6 bolt hubs off the same donor axle at the same time. IIRC the 81 is the last year for the narrow track dana 30 also, at least on CJ7, seem to recall hearing that the CJ5s stayed narrow track until the end in 83.
