I thought I would start a post on my Renegade 1 and get opinions as to its authenticity. I know its difficult but I have a ink jet picture of it before the tear down. The tear down and the restoration up to its current condition was done by the previous owner. All work seems to be done well although the engine is not the original but i period correct and they painted it an early Buick color. not our Kaiser color. If for some reason I am not able to get the pictures into this post they are located in media under my user name conifercj. Thank in advance for any input.

The Jeep was originally orange and I will scan a copy of the picture I have and add that to the gallery. I like the yellow and it will be a while before I get to this one so I may go back to orange but right now I am thinking of leaving it and adding the black Renegade graphics. It only had the side stripes, not the hood graphic. It does have a Warner overdrive and the dash has the appropriate gauge holes with factory notches for the auxiliary gauges.

Anybody see anything that says "not a Renegade". I can add additional pictures if anyone needs to see more details. I wll add pictures as I accomplish tasks but I need to finish my Burnished Bronze one first as that will be my weekend driver.

Thanks for posting the photos, the jeep looks great. I am wondering if you have a renegade 2 due to the original orange color? As far as I know , and I could be wrong, the renegade 1 came in blue and green. Also renegades 1 has 12 or 13 leaf springs, and maybe the renegade 2 as well. I am sure others will chime in here too. Either way you certainly have one good lookin jeep there.

Does the motor have an oil pan skid plate, where there dash pads and a sun visor? Those can help with the authenticity as well.

Edit I just read and see that there are many colors other then the blue and green mentioned in my first link

Congratulations on the project. The Renegade ID information on this web site is very good. You should definitely check out previous posts. As I understand it, the wiring harness is the best way to determine if it is a Ren. I. If the 4 holes in each side of the tub are original, this would be another sign that you may have a Renegade as these look to be correct for a 1970 factory role bar. You may also want to check the taillight panels for holes that would have been used for the swing out spare tire carrier.

The motor does not have an oil pan skid plate. Through receipts I inspected before purchasing the CJ I found the shop in Denver that performed the engine assembly after machining and they told me it was not the original engine but it was from another CJ from close to its model year. When I first saw it in storage it was already painted yellow but the engine shop said when they had it it was orange/red and it was original paint with the Renegade 1 stripes on the side of the hood. I will add a picture I have before the tear down. The body was rough. The seats were gone. No can rack in place that I could see. The dash is correct but I did notice the leaf spring count and purchased it basing my offer on a standard CJ5. No dash pad present in the old picture nor are there visors. Both being soft parts in the Colorado sun could have disintegrated long ago. I do know considerable money was spent on frame work filling in a rear gas tank. Was it a duel tank model?

Here is my Jeep before the tear down. Hard to tell much but maybe someone created a R1 clone from a standard CJ?

Was it blue before orange? No matter really I guess as I like it the way it is and the work done already is a great place to start putting it back together.
