I am returning my 50K mile CJ5 back to stock. It was used for hunting in the mountains of Colorado and was painted latex camo (brush job) and has a "Lincoln locker". Original factory paint was Kaiser 435 Burnished Bronze.

Here are some pictures of my CJ5 in process.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Sorry this is so disjointed. I only got this far because my daughter is home from college. Not sure what will happen next week but the links will help. Thank you!

I primed the hood, fenders and grill the grey primer but when I applied the bronze it turned out gold. I shot the firewall in black primer and when I applied the color it was Burnished Bronze matching the factory color! I sanded the fenders down and the hood and grill are going back to the sand blaster to remove $$$ gold paint. Live and learn.

I believe that's the original color of my 1971. I'll be interested to see your JEEP in fresh paint. Keep up the good work.

Love it!!! Glad you got rolling (the photos).

My '69 (titled as) VIN is just a few (~8350) before yours: 354046.

I didn't have the yellow VIM sticker on mine when I got it, just the riveted firewall plate. Wondering if this is a mid-year switch? Now I want one for the dash... Do you have marker-indents on your front fenders for reflectors? Big turn signals on the grill or small? Just curious.

No marker light indents on the fenders. Reflectors mounted to the hood. Large turn signals on the grill. You can see it before I tore it down under new member from Colorado in Introductions. The entire Jeep was painted in house paint. Maybe it protected it as it was thick!!

I have a 1970 with 28,000+ miles in #435 Burnished Bronze Metalic and 2/3-1/3 front seat in Lt. Buckskin #249. It has a Meyer hardtop on it from factory that has never been off. The Ser # is 8305017 364322, Feb. 1970. Its a great color!

if the gold on the hood and grill was good except for the color no need to remove it again give it a good scuff and re spray.

I agree I really like earth tones on Jeeps. I am going balck on my seats but the buckskin sounds great.

I did scuff up the fenders on the engine bay side, the only side I painted at this point and I started scuffing up the grill but with all the tight spots and hidden areas I felt it best to blast it again. As long as the grill was going I got lazy on the hood and decided to blast the gold from the underside of that as well.

That's cool. I'm noticing what seems to be more and more people restoring older Jeeps to stock within the last few years. Just curious, are you doing it out of personal preference, or are you looking to sell it.

Personal preference only. I won't sell it at this point. There are so many "Franken Jeeps" out there I really appreciate the stock ones. My daily driver is a slightly modified 2013 JK 2 door but my CJ's need to be factory original or as close as possible.

My wife and I visited our son in Austin in May and I took her to the River Walk and Alamo afterwards. All the way through Texas I was checking Craigslist and behind old barns for unloved CJ's.
