Trico Wiper Rebuild.

    Found a guy on eBay who sells NOS rebuild kits for these. He is actually overseas in Europe somewhere. The kits come in boxes and had a inspection tag dated 1981. Gaskets are pretty fragile but includes paddle, etc. first question, should I soak the gaskets in something to bring them back to more suppleness? Next, the paddle requires a rivet removal to get old off shaft and doing a new rivet for new paddle, my old one is pretty tight so may try it without that part. Now, I assume the factory put them together then painted. I'm used to painting everything then assemble, but I'm just that way. Those who rebuilt these, which way did you go. Also there was a yellow model stamping but removing old paint it had to go. Suggestions for putting it back on?

    Is the model number stamped in the metal? It appears to be from the photo. If it is it looks like you can use a thin paint brush or pint pen to recreate the model number. If not then it is possible the number was applied with a stamp, as in a stamp and ink pad. Just my observation and two cents. I'm sure someone here with more knowledge will be able to help you.

    A business that makes rubber stamps (art store, print shop, etc) could make a stamp from an image of the numbers with a scale.

    You seem to be going for a 100 point winner at the Concours D'Elegance!

    No not really but I want to retain that 'feel' of the old. I know most say just replace with electric, which would probably be the best long term, functional, etc., but I'm trying my best to have the old 'that's how it was' feel. I know the stamp you won't see, but we are all just temporary custodians of 'thing' here on earth, and I'm trying to do my part for the next guy, or gal, too. Someone did for me to get the pleasure out of it almost 60 years later, so pay forward. Who knows, may be one of my kids. As for the rubber stamp, that's what I was thinking too.

    Started to rebuild today. The gaskets in the kit are very fragile after all these years. Also the paddle is not same for my shaft. May be able to rig it up, but not looking too good.

    I know there is a guy WiperMan who rebuilds these, but his site specifically says he does not do CJ ones. Not sure why but he doesn't.

    Does anyone know if they offered a passenger side motor back in the 50's? If so was it just the same SF634-1 but mounted on the passenger side? Was the vaccume line just T'ed off the mail line? Any pics of original? Mine has the manual page get so there aren't any holes drilled to match up a motor. Thanks for all input in advance.

    Here is a pic of the vacuum line on my '66. Shows the "T" connection and the metal clips holding the vacuum line feed to the passenger side. The passenger side motor is identical.

    Can you send a close up of that T ? Trying to see if it is just a regular brass T or if it has some sort of check valve in it.

    Not sure if the connector is original, I have to do some research, but it is a "Y" fitting. It is made of plastic.
