would someone have new dana axle shaft handy they could measure inbetween the ears?
my axle ears slightly bent in when I disassembled them few thou, I was hoping someone may have one they can measure for me so I can fix mine.

all but one u joint clip when in. they are a little stiff.

    EDIT.
I found this online (scroll to U-Joint Dimensions Guide:)
Understanding Universal Joints and Size Charts

so for the spicer 5-260x used on the dana 30 the snap ring to snap ring measurment is 2.1880.
so I take it my ears need to be this far apart. does that sound correct?

the measurement inbetween the ears (not sure the technical term) inside measurement inside ear to opposite inside ear. likely a caliper would give best reading.

Spicer calls for just abit over 2 3/16ths (2.1880) on the ujoint snap wring grooves so your 2 1/4 seems good.

    Curious what you find Zila.

I am going to measure mine when I get home to see how far off they are.

best I can tell it looks the same.
as Daryl and the spicer dimensions suggests.

if you may refer to my post #3, the inside faces.
they look to be either 2 3/16 or 2 1/4 would you agree? there is some shadowing in the photo's but I would say were in the ballpark :)

I will look at mine when I arrive home. anxious to see if this is my issue!

I wire brushed it off. I see the circlips now. This measurement is to the flats on the ears

    wonderful
Zila and Daryl you guys rock.
looks like with your info and spicers I can safely measure up mine.

Zila your measurement is 0.016 out from spicers so I think we are good

I will have a look tonight at mine.:)

    edit,
just wondering when the ujoints are assembled should the axles flop around easily? and smooth.

Okay, HUGE improvement, actually just like new.
so I measured all my axle ears including the long axle side I assembled prior.
they all were out of spec.

for the short side that was still broken down waiting to be assembled, I took 5/8 all thread rod and with nuts spreaded the ears back into spec.
I cleaned the cap holes and my god the U joints fit inside the ears with no issues, no fighting, no cursing.
the caps pushed in as you would had thought they would and once all assembled the axle's flop around like new. very impressed and happy I went through this.
SO! EVERYONE MEASURE YOUR EARS BEFORE ASSEMBLY AND BE HAPPY LIKE ME :D

thanks Zila and Daryl for the assistance.

now I am going to pull apart the long side and give it the same treatment as its to stiff for me.
hopefully no permanent damage from that more forceful reassembly.
