The factory or dealer way is a bracket on the rear brim of the x-member and the TC mount on top of the bracket. No cutting of the x-member required.

    Just a quick question,,,

I have the T-98 and D-18 in my '62 CJ-5. I would like to keep that drive train, but I want some more hp. Did you put the Dauntless in your jeep, or did it come that way? I haven't heard of a Dauntless mated to a T-98, but then I am not too familiar with anything beyond 1962. Please let me know, as this is an option I would definitely be interested in.

    Thanks...

It's not from the factory if that's what your asking but I'm using the same parts that a factory set up would have had.

As for how far back it is, I don't have anything to compare it to.

If you do a body lift you will probably have to drop the radiator down a little to compensate for the lift and to keep the fan more or less centered. It's not a big deal, but one more thing to look forward to.

I did about an inch of body lift for my SM420 conversion and I had to modify the floor sheet metal because of interference with the floor pedals.

The engine is stock. Jeep used the Dauntless from around '64 until they sold to AMC when they became "wanna-be's" I bought the T98 with the V6 and D-18 adapter already installed

The easiest solution there is remove the fan and install an electric pusher in front of the radiator. Run's much cooler when playing in the woods at low speeds and relatively low RPM's

Does anyone make a 24 volt electric fan? I guess he could do a wiring modification off of 1 battery for the fan.

I'm not a fan of electric fans (see what I did there? :D) but there is a way to reduce the voltage which I did for my CB. I'd like to stick with the mechanical fan if possible and I'm willing to drop the radiator if needed.

I was playing around a little more. Wood blocks under the gas tank sounded easier than it is. The left side of the tank is up to the inside of the tub. Raising it isn't possible because of the door lip. I placed a block under the right side to see what the clearance is like and it would probably work but then the tank isn't level. Those of you that have met me realize I'm not level headed so that might be okay but it looks pretty odd. I didn't try placing the seat back in so the seat clearance may come into play.

Tom, did you use a lift kit? If so, which one? IIRC, you run an electric fan. Correct?

Here's a guy on pirate who ran into the same issue. I don't have time right now to read on and see how he addressed it.

    1947 Willys CJ-2a retro-wheeler (build) - Page 17 - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

What about moving the drivetrain over to the right an inch? Along with moving the tank as far as you can to the left?

Personally, I think I'd opt to build a custom tank with a notched corner. you could leave everything where it is and tuck it up high.

There's no more room to the left. I'm pushing the limits of my skills as it is.

Jonah had some conveyer belt roller material and gave me some that I cut up into mounts.

I still run the mechanical fan. I also raised the driveline a bit. I put 3/4" steel spacers between the frame and the motor mounts.

I don't think lowering the radiator a bit would be a big deal if you had to do it. You could maybe even split the difference with a fan shroud trim.

Didn't raising the drive line diminish the clearance you gained by lifting the body?
