Hello to all my fellow Jeep junkies! :)
I've been Jeepless for about 3 years now, but the addiction hasn't subsided so I'm working on my next 70' CJ5. I'll keep short and to the point here. She's only got 7200 miles on a rebuild,....040 over bore and .020 on the crank. Problem is, I have an annoying ticking lifter on the drivers side and it doesn't seem to get any better after driving a few miles. I'm thinking a collapsed lifter? Bad lobe on cam already?
Please tell me what ya'll may think and thank you as well!

did you rebuild it? Do you personally know the rebuild was complete with new lifters? Do you have a manifold exhaust leak? The only way to tell for sure if not an exhaust leak is to take off the valve cover, start it up and figure out which lifter is bad. Oil will NOT go everywhere and you can pinpoint the noise.

Yes, I've driven it twice and decided to pull the trigger today as it's my 55th birthday today!

I didn't do the rebuild but, I know the P.O. very well and saw all the receipts and know the individual that did do the rebuild.
I'll do what you suggested and see where it leads me. Thank you. :)

Well, re the manifold leak, it sounds a little different from a lifter tick. It will be loud on acceleration or at constant speed (high pressure exhaust gas pulse), but go away when the throttle is closed and the engine is slowing down. A lifter tick will be more-or-less constant, and may be quieter when the engine is cold.

I would try an automotive stethoscope first, before taking anything apart. Such a scope is cheap at Harbor Freight, or use a long piece of fuel or vacuum hose, but don't mistakenly direct exhaust gas into your ear. Listen around the exhaust manifold-to-head joint, and around the manifold-to-pipe. Should be obvious if you locate it.

If that's inconclusive, move on to the valve covers.
