Smooth but I'm not too sure I'm a big fan. I took the Jeep onto some rough roads and I can't say that it was binding up as much as its reputation says. But I can see that it would.
So I'll live with it until someone here installs the AA hydro clutch conversion and listen in.
This chain conversion is definately a lot less work (install and application) but I think I was expecting a hydro feel and old linkage reliability at the same time. Oh well, my Jeep spends 90% of its time with 4 wheels on the concrete than anything else so I can deal with it. For all I know I may have installed it incorrectly - I'm going to get Bill's opinion on it soon.

I plan on moving my fuel pump from my frame and onto the body. I mean if my clutch conversion is acting up during slight off-highway driving I'd hate pull any hoses off the fuel system.

Marc, it looks right from here...
I really like mine. It took me about 2 weeks of driving to retrain my leg. The release seemed really grabby/quick at first, compared to my old cable.
I haven't had a problem with binding yet.

It actually is pretty clean under there. When I installed that tranny I sparyed the hell out of the underneath with that purple death stuff and went to a local car wash, got under and washed out the whole thing. I feel once every three years is good enough.
That rubbing I've found is the pedal rubbing across the floor, I thought at first it was the chain rubbing against the sprocket housing. Figuring that out in the garage sure beats strapping Billy to the the underside of the Jeep while I drive. I can barely hear him when were over 3000 rpm.
The reason for the conversion is simple. Instead of a direct push/pull linkage as in the original set-up, the pully will cut the amount of work by half. Simple physics. However some folks here have found that this set up binds when the frame flexes. I can only dream of getting that set up to bind. I'm certain it will but not around here. Once that happens I'll go hydro. Has anybody got any pics of their hydro clutch set-up?
And as for clutch rods I'll sell anybody my old one real cheap. As you can see it's hardly broken in.
