Replacement oil lines

    Well, after going thru everything and replacing all rubber lines, detailing under the hood, etc, the new oil line to the filter blew. This thing is brand new! Made a huge mess, and had I been going down the highway, I wouldn't have known it till the engine locked. I'll let Walcks know about it, but this is pretty ridiculous. Only about 500 miles on it. Anyhow, just venting my frustration.

    Maybe consider a braided stainless hose? I've running these for oil lines and never a problem.

    It's only 60 PSI at most. I had a set made up 25 years ago from cloth braided rubber hose & push in fittings- the guy at the hydraulics shop told me they'd be good for 800 PSI.

    Apart from getting a little stiff they still work fine. There has to be a fundamental manufacturing defect with YJ's lines, or they were made with the wrong materials.

    I had a similar problem but mine was totally my own fault -- I routed the oil line too close to the exhaust manifold and it melted. I noticed a lot of smoke coming from under the hood and pulled over. Replaced it with another new rubber line, routed it more carefully, and haven't had a problem since.

    Hi. I think tomorrow I'll have the hydraulics shop make me two new ones. Pinhole developed about an inch below the fitting at the filter. Not close to anything at all. Not a big deal other than the huge mess, and could have lost an engine on a long trip. I replaced every rubber hose, seal and gasket on the whole thing this winter to prevent these kinds of problems. I'm sure the Crown seals will be next to go in the diffs and transfer case. Anyone remember if the hose ends are 1/8 pipe or inverted flare?

    Walcks has contacted me, and would like the line back, as their manufacturer guaranteed that this won't happen. They will reimburse for shipping and send a replacement. My customer service experiences with them have always been positive.

    On my Boss' 50 Chevy, I eliminated the rubber oil lines and bent a set out of 1/4" nickel steel lines. I saw no need for "flex" as the canister for the filter is mounted on the intake manifold. Works like a charm and I think it looks better too.

    FYI, I hade a 48" hydraulic line made with 1/8 pipe at both ends and installed a high pressure 90 to clear the fuel pump, so all is well now.
