Phantom Jeep

Looking at a new Jeep project, it has emblems on hood "Prospector".
Google returns nothing. I'm not aware of any CJ trim package or model with this name...
is this legit? Its a 6 cyl, T14, nothing else seems to be different.
Just a phantom insignia switch?

Likely a dealer addition. Pretty common to add stripes, lettering, etc. to make the inventory stand out. Where I worked, they often added pin striping. Looked sharp, and tasteful.

BTW my brother worked with Ed Roth at Knott's Berry Farm, and Ed pin-striped his (actually my Dad's) car - a yellow first-generation Honda Civic.

 

Now thats pretty cool, a Big Daddy striped car...did dad approve?

 

I presume so. I was away at college at the time.

He even signed it in little letters - "Roth."

Ed painted signs at Knott's Berry Farm. He was an accomplished painter.

 

BTW these are not stripes or lettering.
Raised insignia, chrome, with crossed pick-axes.

What Jeep had those, officially?

 

Never heard of this before. It is interesting that somebody went to that much work to produce it.

 

Didn't the Dodge pickup have this logo back in the 70s or early 80s ?

 

Some body stuck a Dodge emblem on your Jeep.

I think that was the Plymouth name for their Broncos/Blazer type truck.

This Jeep also has an external electric radiator fan bolted on the grille.
Not sure if its emulating an airboat or something....

 

Dodge Ramcharger & Plymouth Trailduster
Prospector was a trim package on Dodge pickups (and maybe the Ramcharger too, I dunno).
