Hey all, I finally am ready to position the rollbar in my Jeep. When I bought the jeep it was in pretty rough shape and the frame was a little twisted. Now that my frame and body are straight the roll bar rocks at the front mounts and the right side is about 1" away from the side of the body at the rear mount on the fender. I figure they must have added the front part of the rollbar after the jeep was wrecked a few times because it does not seem to be straight. I was thinking I would cut it apart, sleeve it at the rear hoop to make it wider and reweld it to fit. Some have suggested using a come-along or jack to spread the rear bar mount. (not sure I like that idea)

Well, after I took off the padding that was wrapped with tape, I found a bunch of corrosion and pitting on the bars and rear hoop which makes me think I should just buy a new cage kit instead. Looking at the picture of this tube, would you guys use this or put the energy into re-doing the existing cage or just get a new kit and build all new?
I guess I think I should buy new and build it but just want to hear opinions. The CJ5 will be street driven and trail driven.

    1) Look in the Mirror.........Like what you see?...............The corroded area will weaken the structure.......if it took any impact that will probably be the first place to break or bend , not sure what material that is nor the wall thickness...........Refer to #1

Replace replace replace. Rot in anything structural is simply too dangerous to keep around. Not only might it bend/break on impact, but it could itself cause damage to any occupants near it when it does go.

Thanks for the responses. That is kind of my thought too, "replace it". I just wanted to hear from someone else that I was not over thinking it.
