I'm exploring my 4 speed options and have narrowed it down to either an SM465 or a T18 with the 6:32 first gear. I know that the Sm465 is huge and requires a fair amount of fabrication in the transmission cover area. For you guys with the T18, how much modification do you have to do to get it to fit? Does anyone have pics of their install? I used the search feature, but couldn't find any t18 install pics.
    Thank you,
    Kyle

The factory equipped CJ5's had specially fabricated transmission cover sheet metal. I have two CJ5's that were factory equipped. I can text pictures. Sam (859)749-5860.

Here's the pics of the trans tunnel fabwork I had to do to get a T18 into my '72 which originally came with the 3-speed. The work really isn't all that hard. The top cover of the T18 isn't just wider and longer, but is also taller than the 3-speed. Both transmissions are good, but if you have the choice, the T18 would be easier to adapt in my opinion.

This was the T-18 when I put it in mine. I never did build a tunnel cover for it. There is no way the stock cover would work.

Here is my SM465 cover. I did fab a new crossmember in order to keep things tucked up nice and high.[IMG]

It looks to me like the t18 is a little easier fit than the sm465. I was going to go with the 465 but the size is what I don't like. Both will end up about the same total cost to install, just looks like less fab work and more ground clearance with the 18
