I have a dana 27 with the spider gears welded....

    Not my doing!!!!

I assume that I am going to have to replace the spider gears, to make it work like it's supposed to.

I wouldn't mind a lockrite up front. what is involved with the instalation? Will the lockrite replace the spider gears? Because I don't want to replace the spider gears to make it work normal, then take them out again once I get around to installing a locking device. I feel like it would be money spent twice..

Wow - that was really weird! I just posted a thread on d27 and lock rights within a few minutes of yours.

The Lock-Right unit replaces the spider gears. If your spiders are welded - it would be a good swap to get rid of your Lincoln Locker and allow your front axles to at least ratchet around corners when the hubs are engaged.

Is that similar to a Miller Locker or Hobart locker? ;)

That's an old racing trick. Instant positraction ;)

Not much value in a jeep though...

    beat you......

yeah i got the jeep with the front already welded...

it really pisses me off cause it's just another thing that I had to fix..
it also came with a poorly done SOA, but that's another story!!

i'm not certian if there is any benifit to running the gears welded in the front. The back maybe, it might just hop and chirp it's way through the corners.
I haven't given it a try in the dirt..should I suspect that the steering will be as bad on looser terrain? or is it going to be just as bad.

i assume that the answer will probably be that I should just swap it out. and that's what led me to the idea that a lockrite would just swap out the welded(err...messed up) spider gears.

how will a locker in the front handle on the road?
is it going to be as much of a painin the ***?

    that's all for now

Just something to keep in mind, usually when you weld spiders you weld them to the carrier so your carrier may be scrap too...
