I have a 69 cj5 with the dauntless 225 V6 and it has a rochester 2g carb # 7027082 that's seen better days and needs to be rebuilt.

I have a chance to get a new old stock 2gv rochester #7028088.

Any chance I can make the 2GV work on my jeep?

My 1968 FSM calls for the 7027082 on the 225 with emissions. A Rochester resource I have says the 7028088 was used on the 225 in 68 and 69. Both carbs use the same rebuild kit. I would think it would work.

If it's a 2GV, it uses a manifold mounted automatic choke stove...you may have to rig up something for the choke.

How hard do you think it would be? Would it be worth it??

From what I have read the choke is a remote choke that some how ataches to the manifold

That's correct. The 2GV uses a manifold mounted choke. A bi-metal coil is bolted to a special boss on the intake, and has a linkage that hooks to the carb to operate the choke plate. Unless you have the correct manifold to go with the carb, that system won't work. But it shouldn't be too difficult to rig something up for a manual choke.

Thanks for the help but I was out bid by $3 on the carb. Who ever got it got a hell of a deal. It was a new old stock still factory sealed in shrink wrap and he got it for $33.

Your best bet would be to obtain a 2GC carb. with the choke housing on the air horn. Then convert to electric choke like I mentioned on the other site. I have a 2GC that came off a '68 jeepster that I bought for parts.Looked like it was O.E. for the engine.

Mote point now but actually no, not on the 225. Choke coil was mounted to the carb. The 350 Buick used the remote bi-metal coil mounted to the intake.

A Rochester 2GV uses the heat stove mounted on the intake. A Rochester 2GC uses the hot air choke mounted directly on the carb.
A Rochester 2G is manual choke.
The OP stated it was a 2GV, so that's where I directed my comments.

I guess you're referring to the the bi metal spring as the choke coil. Mine came from a 71 Commando and was all stock with the pipe coming up from the intake into the circular housing with the spring in it. The pipe attached to the bottom of that housing from a small port directly below it on the intake. Pic below is from a marine version but similar in nature. The pipe is basically a stove pipe to transfer heat to the coil up on the carb body.

Yes. Would have looked like this. There's another metal tube comes off the back of the manifold back up to the carb.

That website explains the difference between the 2 carbs better than I did.
The carb illustrated is a 2GC.
