    Hey gents,
The DieselHeep as been on hold, but acquiring parts. Shocks all that is left, this week! :p

I have had an ACME hardtop for a few years. It is kinda a mess, but it was a heckuva craigslist score, complete, all the glass is good, and fiberglass doesn't scare me. Sourcing hardware and seals biggest challenge, but some buds said I could have some diesel hatch/door latches, which are about the same. I am considering even lopping off that entire rear, and getting rid of that funny looking overhang they all have, unless someone shares a great reason not to.

I already installed the later windshield, in anticipation of the hardtop. However, the windshield is leaning much further back that the angled part of the leading edge of the doors. Like, enough that I initially thought that the original windshield frame was what I should have mounted. But I noticed that it is about the same width at the top of the newer windshield, and looks like it would probably slide into the top, as meant for it.

The cowl seal that was with the windshield looked fine, was resilient, and looks like it was close to it's as molded state. But I have never seen a newer item, so I am unsure.

So, would the cowl seal do it, or am I missing something? Hopefully I didn't drill the holes for the later windshield too far off. I am so ready to be done with welding for a good long while! haha

    Thanks in advance!

Those are always tricky..........meaning getting the later windshield hinges correctly mounted and at the same time getting the top and doors to fit correctly..........almost has to be all done at the same time. Although I am a fan of the Acme Tops they are well known for settling and changing shape if they have been sitting out side for long periods...........in fact the best time to mount one of those is when you have some 100 degree days in a row.....they will move some and take shape.

I have a '78 windshield on my '70 CJ5. I also have a '78 or later Acme Hardtop with the doors installed. Everything lined up! This is the top with the rounded lines. Looks like a later CJ until you notice the shorty fenders. Also have the '78 grill installed with the larger radiator & ford fans. All the stuff fits.

Lucky! My top is beat up. It's mostly there, window glass is great, but the hardware is missing or rough, and there is plenty of repairs to do. Wondering if I should spend the time on it, or sell it as is and just by the "Sears" aluminum top I found...
