When i replaced my tank and line- I wasnt getting gas to fill the bulb. After some frustration, finally removed the line at the fuel pump and gave it a couple of sucks to see what the heck was going on. It took a few times, but finally got fuel to come out of the end. Hooked it back up and it's been fine since.

I have ordered a new fuel pump with the glass globe. It should be here in a few days. I hope I can get it to work, may need some pointers because I am a novice and I know it! Thanks to all.

some times you just need to hook up a tire pump to the pump end of the gas line and blow back toward the tank to clear things.

Shouldn't take much to get it to work. Install it and hook up inlet and outlet and crank the engine over. Should only take seconds till gas shows up in the bowl. It isn't far to the gas tank. ;)

Is there a metal spacer between the pump and block?

My first 2A had a electric pump AC brand and it was to much for it. I hooked up the one on the engine and it worked. My brother had a 402 in a GMC with this kind of pump and it never worked right alot of times it didnt get all the gas it needed. We replaced it once same kind of pump and it didnt work any better. One day we saw a pump dont remember what brand it was a 2inch square box it worked great. I dont think you can beat a mechanical pump on a older rig. If the new pump dosent fix it i would bench test it.

Update! I finally got around to working on the fuel pump. Installed a new glass globe style and she runs like a top. Sounds great and engine compartment looks "cool old school". Thanks for everyone's input, the suggestions and comments were all very helpful. BTW my part guy admitted they have had lots of problems with the electric pump I was using and are suggesting a different model now. Merry Christmas to all and thanks again

Need some opinions. Engine runs fine and even better when it warms up but sometimes there is a little hesitation initially with acceleration. Is this something that can be adjusted? If so, how? Thanks

First. Is the metering Rod set correctly? Idle mixture set correctly? Idle set to 650-750? Timing set to 5 BTDC.

Little more info please. Hesitation when cold, or after warmed up? What carburetor do you have? Describe sometimes. ;)

The hesitation seems better when the engine has been warmed up.I have a new solex carburetor and the engine has been completely rebuilt to specs. The hesitation wasn't quite so noticeable when I was using the electric pump however once I have installed the old-school pump the hesitation seemed to increase. It almost feels like there is a little lag time between the new pump catching up to the motor. The fuel line travels somewhat Uphill to where I placed the new fuel filter. I wonder if I made the fuel line as level as possible out of the tank would that help as it runs to the original style pump. I'm a novice and an easy fix would be great (just once!) thanks

Do you have a pressure regulator between the pump and carb? Solex like their pressure at 1.5 - 2 psi. Standard mechanical pump puts out around 4 - 5 psi.

There has been a lot of discussion around tweaking Solex carbs for proper operation here before, try some searches such as "solex AND stumble", "solex AND hesitation", "solex AND acceleration" , "solex AND suicide" or "solex AND dynamite"

One more note of interest. When I installed the new fuel pump I did not use the spacer plate. I was unaware at the time that one was needed. Now I have read that it may have something to do with reducing the amount of pressure that comes from the pump. Any thoughts?

Did one come off when you removed it? If so, one needs to go back on it.

FWIW neither of mine have the spacer, and usually hesitation comes from some sort of carburetor adjustment being necessary. Generally too much fuel pressure would cause flooding due to the needle valve not stopping the fuel flow.
