    Upgraded n what way?

i have seen some mods to hangers for race prep. I recall a 1972 Renegade that was prepped for a couple of Four Wheeler staffers to drive in a Baja race, back in '72. I believe they welded little rectangles between the hanger and the frame to beef up the hanger attachment. I have seen lifted FSJs pull the rear hangers of the front springs off the frame in modern times. You could also reweld the joints on the side of the hangers, adding more and better weld.

The Renegade also had full-length frame strapping, and blocks welded on the side of the frame to prevent the front shackles from inverting and bending the springs, if they hit a ledge at speed.

I have a NOS frame I am dealing with for my CJ6 and the busing sleeve on the front hangers are gone..
I was planning on drilling out or cutting the rivets and attaching new hangers..

I know JKS and MORE and some other guys sell "stronger" spring hangers, but most if not all are for 2" or 2.5" wide springs..

I can always make them.. just wanted to know if there was a bolt/weld and go option..

I am also planning on strapping/boxing portions of the frame.. but I want to get the springs and axles on first so it’s easier to move around..

Holbrook gives you new spring hangers to burn on with their long leafs. When installed I also had burned on rectangular plates to reinforce that part of the frame. They may be able to set you up with just the hangers.

If you want the standard hangers, look for PNs 645996 and 806910. Lots of people sell these. That's likely what Holbrook supplies. The 645996 is actually for the rear, and the front is different. I think the difference is in the bolt hole location, according to some comments I've read.

I ordered one of those on Amazon last night to see what’s going on with fitment..
I almost would rather leave the factory rivets in place if I can...
if I’m going to swap out I am going to go with a set of these guys..

It's the same width as the spring, 1.75".

Yep. The bushing does not protrude from the spring width. I had to add washers between the spring hangers and the springs to make up the width. On the '74-75 models, Jeep used a silent block bushing that was wider than the spring. NLA.

A "silent block" is a bushing with an inner and outer steel sleeve, with rubber between.

The inner sleeve sticks out just enough to keep the spring from rubbing on the hanger. Like this:

Almost everybody uses polyurethane of similar design - IIRC I used Prothane 1-1001 http://www.prothanesuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=11001

The BDS springs come with bushings like this already installed, so you only need 4 additional bushings. These and the BDS bushings have a narrower inner sleeve than the NLA bushings used on the '74-75 CJs - thus the washers.

got the "replacement" part from OMIX...
its solid.. but im not thrilled with the lack of weld on the sleeve... I can see that over time this part would fail if given the chance...

going to take some measurements and I think the easier thing to do will be to re sleeve the hangers already riveted to the frame..

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but did this hanger work for the front of your jeep? I tried to fit mine today and the front holes don't line up. I'm concerned a won't be able to bolt my steering box bracket back in if I install the new hanger. I trashed my old ones cutting them off or I would be comparing them now.
