    Hey all:
Working on a '67. Looked around the site and didn't see anything addressing this exactly. When I got this jeep the glove box latch was just rattling around in its hole and now that I have it cleaned up I'm wondering exactly how this thing mounts. There don't appear to be any mounting holes or brackets that attach anywhere.

The only hole in the latch mechanism is a small screw hole in the back.

I give, how does this thing mount?

    Thanks

    Tom

Hey...also, anybody tell me how I can resize these photo's?

You are missing part of it. There is a bracket that goes over the back, uses he threaded hole, and keeps the lock in the hole.

The site will not host your photos, except for those tiny ones. Use PhotoBucket or some other image hosting site and hot link to them.

I'm using PhotoBucket. Can't find anyway to resize them on there, unless you have to join to have control.
You don't happen to have a picture of what that latch is suppose to look like do you?

I'd make them the final size before I uploaded to Photobucket. Use a freeware resizer like PixResizer.

Not on hand. it's sort of a cup that fits over the back of the lock, with part of the cup cut away. Maybe later...

I thought the missing screw clamped the two pieces together to keep it from falling apart. Older types had a bracket, like this one from a '56. Try putting the missing screw in and see what happens.

If it were an old one like this, the door would have studs for the two nuts, I believe.

My current, functioning latch on the '71. The trim type piece on the outside of the door is a bit different than yours but, I believe they are the same otherwise and the screw should retain the latch to the door.

    Close.

This link is the lock assembly - http://www.jeep4x4center.com/lock-assembly-glove-box-push-button-non-lockable-version-5450252k.html - this is what you have now. This Jeep PN does not include the cup that you are missing. Jeep even calls it "CUP, glove box door lock clamp"

You need the cup, Jeep PN 664843

This picture shows the cup covering the lock assembly -

If the part that PieLut shows includes the cup, great. If not, you'll just get another copy of what you already have. The cup is not shown in PieLut's link, and the PN in my link (for the same price) is just for the lock - no cup or screw.

JMO ... $26 is robbery for that part.

Ahhh. Sorry folks. Couldn't make out that the outer part was missing. Guess I need to get to the eye doctor guy.

OP: A wanted ad in our classifieds may turn up the part you need.

Once again...saved. Thanks guys great pictures and info. Willys Jeep Parts has the piece, was tempted to buy the round style off ebay (they're pretty cheap) but the exact piece is pretty tempting, just to keep it original.

Is there any way to just the metal bracket for the early style? I have everything else but that...

Tim, the part sold by 4wd.com has the "cup." I purchased one for a friend and helped install. Expensive, yes. Cheaply made, probably. Fills the hole and keeps the door closed, priceless.
