We got most of the sheet metal finished and had to get some primer on the open metal.. rust sux! So I sanded for about 10 hours and cleaned the metal properly prior to laying down the self etching primer.. I will say it came out good enough for my yard. We got the shocks mounted and they seem to work as they should, all new F9/11 bolts.. I should be receiving my caster shims today and hopefully this will eliminate the tie rod clearance issue, if not.. I did in fact purchase the GoferIt bushings.. Sheldon at http://www.goferitoffroad.com/ was real helpful and sent my bushings for the flip that day, I received them within 3 days (he is in North Carolina and I'm in San Diego CA good turn around time) thank you Sheldon! Next on the list after we get the tie rod and drag link above the springs its on to final steering assembly. Need to drill into the DD steering shaft for the joints to lock in, put one more shaft support and lock tight that sucker together.. I ended up with 3 Flaming River joints and the shaft goes through my headers..photos and more to come..

Latest update.. coming down to the final stretch on the chopped up cj5 (I know the purest's probably are not pleased). But the build is getting close to stage 1 complete. The steering clearance on the tie rod and leaf spring was resolved by the castor shims 6 degree.. and we still have the option to go higher with the Goferit bushings.. we just finished the sealed rear compartment with 3 doors, 2 on the side and a large door on the top with dzus fasteners and some weather stripping on the edges.. very please with the way they turned out.. this weekend will be putting gussets in the the cage and sheeting in the roof.. (I have been in the sun plenty).. we are doing the bed liner rustoleum on the interior and floor then a 1/8 rubber sheeting on top of that.. and haven't really come up with too much for the paint plan besides it's got primer and will not rust haha..easy to touch up..I mad a new battery tray 1/4" angle iron and connected to the frame with 1" tube so no, it is not going anywhere! I went with the AGM Excide Edge, from what they say it is great for the price tbd. More to come..

Well as you all know putting the "jewelry" on is pretty fun.. I can't say thank you enough to Justin Banister at Banister Iron Works for making this build happen .. roughly 5.5 months and we are a week or so away from shaking her down.. last weekend "labor intensive weekend holiday" we hammered down for the last of the major sheet metal work.. and most of the loose ends..
I got the "Cobra" vhf radio.. anybody use this or have any opinions on the quality? so this will be installed, I got the Sylvania Silver Star headlights to replace the old ones.. and some 1" led reverse lights, and a couple of 2x4" led's..(LED's Cree are cheap these days).. so wiring and a bit of primer on the sheet metal roof, still need to bleed the brakes but for the most part we are real close! as I said most of the upcoming stuff is just jewelry.. the best part of this is that I blew my back out and sitting and driving hurts the worst!!! haha.. typical right.. well this build is not for everybody but I am sure everybody will take a cold beverage out of the trap door cooler out in the sticks! cheers![IMG][IMG][IMG]MG]

Ok well just found out the hard way.. those shackles in the photo.. way to big!! DEATH WOBBLE.. we ended up making all new shackles yesterday front and rear and only went 3/4" longer than stock in the front.. and a bit longer in the rear..they say don't make longer shackles.. I agree now but if your just crawling going slow I dont think it will be a problem..

So our death wobble issue.. shackles were put back to almost stock.. we strongly believe it is the tires being out of balance and the wear pattern from previous owner of the tires, so we need to swap the back right tire to the front right and we should be good to go as that is how the other guy had them on his old Chevy truck..i had some Herm od tie rods but no new ends..so I will be buying the entire new tie-rod/ends kit and new pitman arm from Herm.. then have Milo Johnson do my alignment haha.. we got the reverse mini led lights in and working, all lights even the license plate light works.. and after that keep on wiring in the new vhf radio, stereo, under carriage lights and snake lights... man she has some get up and go and sounds awesome! Our buddy is coming buy with his timing light the 4 bb carb and offy intake seems a bit starved for gas.... have yet to decide on paint.. may just end up with the ole rustoleum truck bed liner and etching primer .. tbd. And putting the jewelry on it is an awesome feeling! thank you again Justin Banister you rule! Oh did I say it hauls ***! haha.. that motor and gearing has gobs of power and torque with the way it is set up.. cant wait to get to the dirt! some pics.. Banister checking the fuel cell..
[IMG]the seat belts seem to work pretty good so far.. tbd offroad
[IMG]the little tiny led's put out of ton of light! surpised
