Just when I think I can work on the body!!! F-134 power issues

    Guys I saw a major drop in performance on the engine yesterday. I barely made it home. I tried to rule out the easy stuff first and replaced the fuel filter. No I am looking at the carb. Please find video one explaining what I am experiencing and video two with a question about the amount of fuel in the fuel bowl.

    In summary should there be 3cm of gas in the fuel bowl? I did test the float and it is still good

    Float (fuel) level is checked by the float height relative to the carb lid, when rested upside down. It may vary, depending on the particular float needle valve used, etc.

    Sudden power drop could be burnt points, dirty fuel, vacuum leak, or a lot of other things.

    I would check the basic tune-up items first and bring them into spec. Start with some known baselines.

    I was very afraid when, 3 years ago, my Jeep was running badly, and not running at all. Engine is a F 134.
    Because I had brought it back home, a 700 km nonstop except refueling, I believed that it was not catastrophic.
    With some $$$ and time to rebuild, I have now a perfect machine.

    Nothing was broken but all was in disorder. I paid a specialist, and some parts.

    You can have a dirty carb (just clean filters) and many small disorders adding to make a problem difficult to solve.

    Don't hurry up, check from 0 ; take clean fuel, in a can, connect to the fuel pump, so you know it is clean.
    This is the "méthode expérimentale" one checking at a time.
    Then it can be the ignition. You have good specialists, exports, on this forum. Describe the problem and follow them.

    F 134 is very strong, mine is now working perfect... I am surprised. And nothing expensive, just time, a good pro, good parts.

    I can add that most fuel problems are electric...........

    By electric do you mean ignition/ spark?

    I am readying the post regularly, but saint electric doesn't help a ton, sorry.

    TexasWheels have you checked for vaccum leaks. The vaccum pump went out on mine and it ran like crap. The carb base gasket may have started leaking.

    3cm does roughly convert the correct fuel depth of 1 1/8". So the float should not be the problem, neither should the needle and seat. Do the following. Looking at the low speed jet, brass, centered in the main body, look counter-clockwise past the screw hole and see if the clip, weight and check ball are still there in their passage. If not, not good. If so, place a finger over that passage and pump the accelerator pump a few times. Fuel should squirt into the barrel of the carb. If it does, good. Do one more check and with your finger off the passage, pump it again until it squirts up, then check to be sure that the fuel level in that passage, above the weight and check ball remains constant for at least 60 seconds. if not, suspect the accelerator pump of having ruptured in the housing.

    Well I hate to admit, it was the timing. I should have checked that front he beginning. I have had issues from the beginning with this new distributor and the "lock bolt" coming loose. I retightened it and took her for a drive this evening. She ran like a top!
