Hey guys, I'm putting in a new clutch on a 1970 CJ5 Dauntless V6. Can't remember which way the friction plate is supposed to be positioned. One side of the friction plate sticks out farther than the other. Does this side go towards the flywheel or the pressure plate?

    Thankya!

Otherwise the hub rubs on the flywheel bolts.

What he said. If you install it spring side in it can bend the disk and may not release.
    Don't ask how I know that.:D

Yes, many years ago. I was still in high school and dad told me if I fix the car(1962 belair) it was mine. I worked 3 weekends for him to pay for the clutch disk. Then another 3 weekends to buy the second one. The way I remember it is flat to flywheel.
