Anybody ever put a holley 350 cfm on a f head?
The Carter I have on it is junk. It floods like crazy at low rpm. I've lowered the float to the point I'm not sure it would run down the road. Even then it won't idle, it just floods. Black smoke out the tail pipe and fouled plugs.
Anyway I have a good holley 350 cfm and just wondered if anyone has ever tried to rejet one to match the 134? If so what jets did you use?
I know I'll have to build an adapter but that's not a problem.

I don't think the jets will be the issue. I expect that the venturis of the 4V will be too large to give you a decent vacuum. Control of the fuel in the carburetor will be very poor - you will have to make the mixture very rich to keep the engine running under all conditions. Small displacement plus low RPM means low air flow, so you need a fairly small venturi to make enough vacuum (Bernoulli effect) to control the fuel.

It was just a thought, since I have the two barrel. I guess I will have to save some money and buy a decent carburetor.
I wonder if I could rig up a throttle body injection?
I do have access to a 90 model 4 cylinder Chevy that was totaled. ??????

Tim's exactly right....350 cfm is simply too big for your engine.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the Carter YF carb, they were used for years on all sorts of different vehicles.

If you do the calculations with a 134 and assume a 4000 rpm redline along with 80% efficiency, the number is 124 cfm required. A 350 cfm is about 3 times what is needed. While that could likely be jetted down enough to work, it will suffer greatly from the usual over-carborating effects-low vacuum response that kills the low end along with making them very sensitive to elevation change. In short: don't do it.

I do recall some threads adapting TBI to the 134 and a search here or the 2A, 3A, and 3B Pages could turn up some applicable information. I didn't pay much attention to them but from my own experience with transplanted power and EFI, it can't really be beat on or off road.

A 1V TBI for a 151 Chevy would work. EFI does not require engine vacuum to do work, so the size of the venturi is much less important than in a carbureted application. There's a lot on the net about programming the Chevy TBI systems for other applications. You need a high pressure fuel pump, a handful of sensors, adapt the throttle body to the manifold, and reprogram the computer. Quite do-able, but will require some homework. A 32/36 Weber progressive will work.

If you can find the Redline kit for a 2 litre VW air-cooled, or the 2.3 litre Rabbit, then all you need is an adapter from one barrel to two barrel carburetors.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.
I have the complete Chevy car I can pull parts from. So the pump and related parts are not a problem. I'll start doing some research on it and post back when I make a decision on which way I'm going.
