Have started my Saginaw conversion but have not purchased the Steering Box. What is recommended, O-rings or Flared hose connections?

    Thanks,

I think it's whatever you can find. The power steering pump can easily be converted to either type fitting. The adapter just screws in, and can be found on any newer GM car with o-ring lines.

Original CJ boxes used the flare nut type fittings.

It depends on power steering pump

For example my pump is of a 69 buick so it's the flare type,

Therefore I went with a flare type steering gear out of a el camino

Like others said there are adapters

Thanks everyone. Reading between the lines; It does not matter as both are fine. Just depends on what you can find & purchase.

Yes, but if buying used, if they are disconnected from the pump and not plugged off, IMO they are just cores.

Consider part # 6529 from Autozone. This is the gear that I used. 4 turns lock to lock. $118 plus 23 for core.

Hay, a big thanks. Just ordered online with free shipping to the house as I am way out in the sticks. Plus they are running a 20% off promotion for spending over $100. Great deal if someone else is thinking about do a steering conversion.

    Thanks again, rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

You can reference my power steering conversion here... See post #130 http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/show...wer-steering-(pics)-please-add-yours!!/page13
The pump and bracket are from a 68-70 Buick car with the 350. This style bracket is the high mount option. The pump is the typical "ham can" style pump. The great thing about this set up is that its a direct bolt on system. You will also need a double crankshaft pulley.
The Jeep trucks with the 350 engine have the same bracket as well.
This style bracket is tricky to find. The guys at http://www.v8buick.com/ might be the best bet.

Thanks PieLut. Great write-up that I had already printed out except the first part with your name so missed the connection. You have been a great help, thanks again!
