Well, I've been driving my 66 around for a little while now and I have to say, it might be the funnest Jeep I've ever owed (12 over the years). There's just something about that little 4 cyl and those 5 stick shifters that makes driving it feel like an adventure!

Anyway, the brakes, fuel and electrical have been sorted out so I've decided to spruce it up up (literally) with some fresh paint, wheels and tires. Here's the start to the next phase of this humble restoration.

The tires that I've been rolling around the neighborhood on were pretty dry rotted so I found a Craigslist deal on some brand new Treadright re-treads. I debated on going with some NDT tires but I think these will serve me better for street and occasional forest service road.

I like the look of the civilian style steel wheels but it took a while to find some. Again, Craigslist to the rescue with this donor. Scrubbing, sanding, some white fleet paint and voila... good as new!

"Spruce it up" was my attempt at humor. I'm not sure if this is actually Spruce Tip Green but I like the color.

I picked up some black base coat/clear coat for the wind shield but I may go with black fleet paint instead so I can match it on the front bumper. I used flat on the wind shield of my 74 but I think I'll try for a more glossy look this time.

Looks like a fun pile of parts! How long did it take for you to get those Steelies?

Looks like a good project--I'm not a big fan of white wheels, but if that's what it came with I respect your decision. After all you may not like black wheels like mine.

Like it. Sits nice. Slight lift? I'm starting to like that spruce tip green.
