    I have a 47 2A with a L-head 4 cylinder and I'm trying to get a starter for it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-1941-19...TARTER-4-Cyl-2-2L-2197cc-134cid-/111336297811

These guys say they have starters for both flywheel tooth counts. Are there different flywheels that might be on my motor? Is there any other way to get the tooth count other than counting the teeth through the tiny hole? I can do it and it would be worth it to get a decent starter I'm just wondering.

    Very early CJ2's had a smaller flywheel, 97 (?) teethe vs. 129(?) for the later L-head & F-heads.

The starters have a different tooth count, 10 for early vs. 9 for later.

These things do nor mix & match.

A quick way to the the difference is the starter nose- early models have the end of the shaft fitting into a bore in the bell housing, later ones have the stater shaft totally enclosed in the starter nose piece.

I definitely have the starter that does not have the nose but fits in the bell housing bore. I guess I will crawl in there and count while someone turns the crank with a ratchet. I could use either 6v or 12v but Iwould guess it was 6v from the factory. It has a 1 wire alternator hook-up now.

    Thanks,
