Front fender flares for a Flatty?

looks nice, but a lot of work to just pass an inspection.
I assume you want them on all the time to go to that much work.

I doubt if that would have saved my fender when the tree hit me on John Bull.
I'm almost 100% certain that the damage would have been much worse with something like that on the fender; as previously mentioned, I think the "more damage" assessment is correct.
This is not an attack on your design or your buidling skills.
I think it will look very good when you're done; I'm worried about what the intended use is for.

 

I don't intend on bashing the hell out of the Jeep rock crawling or hardcore trail riding. I will have done too much work and spent too much money on this project to do that. I have tried to protect the body with some of my mods and designs to keep damage to a minimum when the unexpected happens. It is a lot of work to build these but overall I enjoy the fab work. I was going to fab up complete tube fenders with more coverage originally but I didn't like the look of them. I really need some 1 1/2" dies for my bender with a radius that is similar to the original fender to make a complete set of fenders. I think that is what I am not liking about these flare add on pieces, that the radius at the front as well as the 1" diameter doesn't look quite right. I really just like the stock fender as is the best, but I am hoping I can make this look nice when done.

It seems the most applicable soft rubber angle I could find. Minimum purchase is 100 ft at 6$ a foot. The hard plastic front sets A.E. sells are $55 so I would need roughly 11 other people at least willing to spend $50 for a front fender set.

 

Hi Greg ,Gord here from Salmon Arm. I had the bushwaker front flares on Willy. The drivers side flare got tore after dragging it against some hard sod and also tweaked my fender some. I took them off after that. I figured it was just more to catch on and cause more damage. Now I just run without them and hope the RCMP don't stop me (running an open knuckle 44 at narrow track width) I like the flareless look anyway, looks cleaner. I agree with you about the look of the flat fenders, i always loved them . Looking forward to seeing what you come with .

 

Hi Gord. This is actually a really old thread. I kind of gave up on this tube fender extension. Just didn't like the look. I think I will just run with no fender extensions and see what happens. The cops aren't usually too hard on us for tires sticking out. The jeep project is pretty stagnant right now. Don't seem to have the time or money to make progress. It is a good conversation piece for my shop. I am back working in Salmon Arm. I will have to meet up with you sometime over the summer.

Back in the 70's, Husky Products Co mfg fender extensions of rubber ftont were moulded specifically for the front fender and likewise the rear, I still have mine on my 2A

How about a dead set of fenders to cut out the width you want to be legal. You're a good welder. Those extensions were thought out and looked good. Trim the old set to add width to the standard fender.
