I have to change a glass in my ventilated windshield. There are 2 half-glasses. In one, the glass is made of 3 parts, 2 glasses outside and inside one plastic film, the plastic films was becoming white.

I took the bad one of, it is glued with a sort of white glue like something we use in bathroom or sinks to waterproof around.

I had to "unglue" by hand and with aceton.

I would like to put my new glass coming soon inside the windshield frame :

with an adapted glue / sealant? option 1

with a sort of rubber "rope" because there is nothing to glue, the frame is in 2 parts and holds the glass by pression.
I thing of some adhesive rubber "tape" used for windows against air entrance. Width is 10mm, the glass is 7mm.

    What do you suggest.

the windshield, the lower part moves away and the glass comes out easily ( if not glued inside):

    Thanks for help.

i am currently having mine done. it's the same as yours, but a '66 cj5a. more than i wanted to mess with so it's at a body shop. it will get new new glass and probably some sort of universal seal around the edges of them. as there were so many holes from previous owners changing tops, wipers, etc., they are also filling the holes and priming the whole frame for me. estimate is about $500.

In fact there is no shop wanting to do this. I'll have the glass cut at the size, one 1/2 glass costs 190 euros, and the sealant subject is up to me.
The metal part is in good condition, so my only problem is to seal correctly the glass inside.
To "unseal" it it took me time and only acetone could dissolve this white materiel used by to PO.

so my idea is to use an adhesive rubber ribbon as those used to isolate windows from wind entries. I could also use transparent silicon (like Rubson" for bathroom) but why?

Rain cannot go through a rubber ribbon and it will be fast and safe. Opinions and returns of experience are welcome.

I am near to have my CJ5 ready to travel... after 3 years. Joy is crescendo filling me with hope.
I bought it and drove it directly home in a 700km non-stop trip. Since this terrible travel, In 3 years I made no more than 500 km!
Maybe new tyres to buy, these ones are hard like stone, they are quit old (Michelin).

I would like to add this photo, so you see the upper part of the windshield, it is easy (if not stupidly glued) to remove the lower part which is holding only by few screws and metal parts; in fact, without removing the moving part of the windshield from the car, without removing the wipers, you can change a half-glass or both in 10 minutes, if you have a replacement part.

You just need some soft ribbon to fill the space between the glass and the frame, it is not useful to glue it. Some soft ribbon is enough, in U shape. The low frame blocks the glass in position.

I have a v/w stashed for my CJ5, and it's the only one I can recall ever seeing that has a one-piece glass in it, there's no center divider and no signs of there ever being one that I can tell. I'm curious as to whether it was made this way, or if it may have been converted once upon a time?

I also have a new rubber seal for it that I got from DeBella's Jeep Parts. He's the only source I've ever seen for them. I can't recall though if it's the seal for the glass or for the internal frame to external frame.

a little silicone based window sealer in the channel is normal. water is lazy it will find the easiest way in usually between the rubber and the metal. that butyl product will be gooey for a long time. its probably supposed to be plain rubber ribbon(not sticky) hence the white bathtub caulk youve got now
