Saw a thread about this the other day and have a question along the same line. I am working on '67 and have no bracket for the passenger side seat. Found someone who has a couple for a '55 CJ5, will one of those work in my '67?

Not sure what you mean by the "bracket". Stock '55 seats are one piece seat/mounting frame where '64 up seats have separate mounting frames that the seats connect to. On the passenger side the mounting frame is two pieces, the part the seat bolts to and a bar that the seat frame hinges on, that bolts to the body. Pre '64 seats hinge on a couple of cast pieces the bolt to the top of the tool box.

Here's a pic of both systems-

    Great photo Howard.
I'm fabricating some mounts right now to put Smittybilts in my '57 - that will help a lot.

Thanks Howard, that answers my question. New to this era of jeeps and wasn't sure if the seat had a mounting fixture or was all one unit (I have a '49 CJ3A and the seat frame is all one piece with the cast brackets that bolt to the floor). Since I don't have anything I wasn't sure how the passenger side seat mounted to the body.
By the way, thanks for the help with loading pictures. The one on this post was done per your instructions. Have re-built two CJ3's and am looking forward to getting into this '67. Was anxious to do a V6. Will have plenty of questions, I'm sure.

Pete, would love to see what you do with that ... I'm looking at some Smittybilts as well.

Basically, I'm copying a late style mount, to fit the smittybilts into a '57. (I suspect the smitty bases are designed for the later style frames.)
But I'm trying to size my custom frame for best comfort, height, etc.

The problem I have seen with the new replacement seats like Smittybilt and others is they have molded foam cushions that is very firm that make you sit way too high. In other words, you sit "on" the seat rather than "in" the seat like the original spring type cushions. Does anyone know a new seat where your butt sits low, just above the gas tank?
