ok, i'm helping a buddy of mine (i'm no mechanic) swap a 1981 jeep 2.5L into my 1966 cj5a. i know, not the typical sbc swap. the problem is it isn't clearing the brake pedal. i have the novak kit and the engine, tranny, and tc are bolted together. it's swung all the way to the right side as far as it can go without hitting the frame. the left side of the bell is still hitting the brake pedal and linkage. what didn't get addressed that this is happening? do i need to remove the heater and swap in swing down style pedals? if so, is it better to just do both the brake and the clutch? what year pedals do i need to source out? this is driving us both crazy as we haven't read of the v8 swaps having this problem. got pretty frustrated so it just got moved it into a storage trailer so another project (easier and faster) could be done in the garage while this gets sorted out. any help sure would be appreciated.

Pictures would be great........Obviously the bellhousing on that little 4 cylinder Iron Duke is causing an issue............your only choice is to do a set of swing pedals , one for the brake system .........but also one for the clutch as I believe those motors had a slave cylinder on the bellhousing for that purpose.
Same year pedals as the motor , set up with the hydraulic clutch master and brackets will work with some cutting and fitting........heater does have to go...........should be plenty of info on this site for installs. Not a real power house of a motor @100HP and 125 ft lbs of torque........the little Buick V6 may be another option.

thanks. committed to the 4 banger. i'll search out a set of pedals. i was hoping i could keep the mechanical linkage instead of doing all the work for a hydraulic clutch.

I think that 4 banger is already set up for a Hydraulic slave..............check the bell housing.

i had to switch bell housings. i'm keeping my t90/d18 so i had to get a bell off a mid 80's chevy pu.
pics are tough right now. it had to be pushed out of the garage for another project so it's in a storage container for a few more days.

I'm in the process of putting XJ pedals in my M38a1. I would recommend them or YJ pedals. Try and see if Novak or Advance has a way to adapt a hydro clutch to your set up. I know Novak has a pretty slick little unit, i'm planning to use it on mine. I just don't know if it would work with your clutch. It would fit the bell housing though. It doesn't seem like you guys aren't worried about staying original, so getting away from the stock pedals can be beneficial...
