Nothing easy about welding sheet metal...........but I have found the Mig will produce less overall heat if you just weld either a spot of short weld at a time and move on over to the opposite side ...........I like to use a 3/16" hole punch and just tack weld the sheet metal every 1" or so depending on gauge grind it off and call it a day...............Nice Job looks good.

For most projects I will mig weld it. In this case where it's 18ga steel that is dead flat, about a 5' long weld and no way to get behind it to body work it. For cases like this I like to oxyacetylene weld it because the heat is very low, there is no filler (except if you burn a hole) and I can weld the whole thing in minutes. One of these days I need to learn how to tig weld.

I love to weld with my OA rig, but I still get less warping using my MIG properly with 0.025 wire.
I'm sure you will do what's most comfortable to you.

tarry99, your inbox is full so I couldn't PM you.

My problem is I get impatient. :( With my OA rig I can easily weld up a long flat and thin piece of sheet metal quickly with very little warpage. Also with the OA it is very easy to body work and there is very little grinding afterward. With a mig i get impatient doing repeated tacks while making sure that I don't get into a hurry.

The wheels of progress around my place have been turning pretty slow lately. I was able to get the sheet metal cut and bent to replace both drivers and passengers rocker panels, floor boards, floor braces and firewall. Unfortunately my renters decided to break the lease and leave me with a ton of work on the house to get it rent ready so I haven't had much time to work of the CJ. However, I did find some time this week to get the passenger side rocker replaced. I was really hoping to have both rockers done this weekend so I could focus on building a rotisserie to make it easier to put the new floors in.
