No its not about how to put one in, I am fairly sure I know how a person would do that.

Want I am curious about is how does you shift the transfer case if you have an auto, since you longer have a clutch? Do you just put the transmission in park or neutral? Or does it even matter? I am sticking with my T90 for now but it is just something I have wondered about

Some times you can do it in neutral and some times it takes neutral and killing the engine. I dont like autos in jeeps but i owned 2 and they worked ok. But it some time makes shifting the transfer more work.

the problem with running a automatic and transfercase . I found that it had to be in park to stop motion to rear output shaft in transmission in order to shift transfercase , but if the sliders in transfer case don't line up it won't go in gear , so if you put it in neutral it will grind to engage , everything starts to spin . when it has no drive shaft to hold it . neutral in transfercase I ran a TH350 for awhile and didn't like it but some do . one thing to consider will you be using this to go down hill on a trail . auto won't hold you back like a stick will . I am sure you'll have other responses to this question

I am probably going to use a T18 or NP435 if I swap but I was thinking about it. As, is the T90 is doing good for me

Thanks for the replies, I figured it might have to be in park. Can't say I would be a fan of that and it is even worse now that I realize sometimes it might not line up right

When I had my Pathfinder I was always killing the engine to shift into 4wd (automatic).
Only thing I hated about it. Wouldn't go otherwise.

One of the most surreal events I've ever witnessed involved an automatic 4WD. At the time, I was trout fishing on the Clavey river & a Blazer, following a CJ5, crossed the river about 20 yards below me & headed up the hillside (no trail)...there was a road about 100 yards uphill & I thought that was where they were headed...but they got to the road, exchanged some words & headed straight up the hill again. Another 60-70 yards uphill, the Blazer stalled & immediately started rolling backwards because his brakes were wet & the driver didn't have the presence of mind to try throwing it in neutral...It rapidly picked up steam & by the time it got to the road below them, they were going so fast they flew completely over it. Bodies, ice chests & gear were flying all over the place. The Blazer would hit the ground, bounce, hit the ground, bounce...until it finally smashed dead center into a large pine tree just as one of the girls in back was coming down directly behind the vehicle about 20-30 yards from where I was fishing... I thought she was dead!!! I don't remember crossing the river or climbing up the hill...the next thing I remember was coming around the tree & seeing her laying there shaking & sobbing hysterically...looking back on it all, it's truly a miracle that nobody was seriously injured. Probably even more surprising is that after everybody regained their composure, they picked up the scattered beers & chests & actually drove that Blazer back up to the road & went on their way...this all happened in the very early eighties IIRC.

ETA: (No top on the Blazer)
