So I'm getting closer to actually getting the Jeep street-legal, and on the must-have list is a functioning heater. I have a 28,000 BTU Summit heater on the way, and I spent the afternoon getting the OEM heater removed. WHAT A PITA !

So my question is this: the intermediates have the cowl vent to supply fresh air to the heater. Is there a good way to hook this up to the Summit heater, or is it easier to just use the cabin air recirculate? I've always liked having outside air to help dispel the moisture inside the cab, but how important is that?

If you used the cowl vent for intake air, how did you go about ducting it to the heater?

Why did you not stay with the OEM heater?..............Best of both worlds there as you have outside air , defrost and heat? The Summit is a good heater but it has no easy method of directing the air to the folks in the cabin nor to the windshield for defrost..........That Summit heater is pretty much a stand alone heater for an older pre-71 Jeep that blows Hot air in two directions at all times.
I did take a Summit and installed it in my 65 CJ and added some vents for heat and a directional valve to get air on the windshield but requires some time and fabrication............here's a link:http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/show...ater-to-install/page3&highlight=summit+heater

    Good Luck!

The summit heater advertises "max" output (possible) at 28k btu...I wonder how that compares to the stock heater? Right now, my stock heater box is out (has been for years), and will need a new core to go back in. If output is about the same, it's just as good or better....BUT, if I can get double the heat, I'd buy the aftermarket.

The stock heater in an intermediate was never known for its heat output.
