I was thinking of using .080" aluminum to replace the floors in my 68 cj5 and was wondering in anybody has done this or has any thoughts or suggestions. My thinking is if properly done they should be as strong as steel due to the increased thickness yet lighter and more corrosion resistant. Just looking for thoughts before I make up my mind.

I was thinking either thin rubber strips or some for of silicone sealant at the contact points and stainless hardware. I.m pretty much starting with a clean slate because of how bad the original is so my thought were toward 1x1 tube steel for a framework and the 080 on top. What's there for a body is not remotely worthy of restoration so I'm leaning toward some redneck ingenuity for the body.

After looking at that link I'm not so sure on ss harware. The charts the have so less chance of corrosion with mild steel fasteners.

Not worth the work you'd have to do to isolate the two metals. Use steel and work on keeping moisture away from it instead.

After what was said about mixing metals I wonder what it would take to fab the entire body from aluminum. Give me an excuse to try out the spool gun I bought last year for the mig. and yeah the body is that rough I was gonna junk it but after getting the old 4 banger running I don't have the heart to piece it out.
