Thought I'd show the new tire mount. Locating the holes to mount properly on the hat channel was a bit of a pain... anyone else working on this too?

Nice tire mount, looks good. Wile I was checking out your photo of it, I noticed your corner guards. It has cut outs for your old rear soft top mounts. Did you cut them out or buy them that way? If you did it yourself, how hard was it and what did you use to do it?

Yeah I've been keeping in mind about the extra width, and having a big ol tire bouncing down a trail. However, I don't fancy myself much of a "trail rider" anyway. There's nothing crazy that this Jeep will do. It's got the original F-Head and running gear... so kind of limited. I wouldn't want to break anything either.

66CJ5A, I got those like that. They look like they're factory cut... or the guy (form Yakima-craigslist) did a great job. Sorry I can't help you any more than that. I wouldn't imagine it would be too hard since it's aluminum.

    66CJ5A, one more thing...
I was just out looking, and it actually appears home done. So forget my previous comment. I would think that a hand held jig saw with metal blade would cut these out quite nicely.

Hey I am about to do all of that, did you have to install the baffle and hat channel or was it already in there? Any PHOTOS measurements tips shortcuts etc are welcome!!!

I'll try for photos tomorrow. I know there's lots of info already on the forum and on cj3b website. The measurements were an absolute pain, and not 100%. Also, the channel was already installed with original wood filler.

Looks good! Spare tire storage sucks either way on a JEEP. I've tried the rear spare tire carrier deal, moved back to the side. Personally I'd rather deal with it being on the side than access to the back being more difficult.

My thoughts exactly. I just put in a back seat too... so the space available for anything is next to nil, much less for a spare tire. On the side it will go (or in my Ben Hur trailer http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?102851-Ben-hur ).

I apologize if this picture is a little cryptic, but it made sense to me. This is the diagram showing my spacing to hit the hat channels exactly where I needed to.
