OK so...new solex carb is on.. and it runs good except... the thing wants to stall when i get on the gas. as soon as i go to accelerate it putters and then goes. I noticed the the distributor cap wobbles when it is running too.... if i hold it down ...it runs no different. clearly i need clips for the cap but do you think i need to set the points? i am getting a rhythmic miss at idle puh...puh..puh...puh...puh. ....kinda idles like half of a cammed up v8. has anyone had any luck with the pertronix ignitor? and if i were to go with that...which one do i get?

"do you think i need to set the points?"

Yes, anytime and always. It would take less time to just do it than posting the question did. Easy but critical, always a first step in a tune-up.

A rhythmic miss is something unique, not systemic. e.g., a particular wire, plug, or valve on an individual cylinder. Bad points might exaggerate the effect but would not cause it.

im sad to say that im somewhat new to the points system. being a car nut...its a little embarassing. I had to look up how it worked. thankfully ..Walks 4x4 had a video on how to do it with that very distributor. it didnt do this until the new carb went on.

Never messed with a solex, but symptoms would suggest the accelerator pump output needs to be increased. And that miss-hopefully not an exhaust valve but that is exactly the sound you would get from a bad valve. A compression check may be in order.

This sounds like an accelerator pump issue, or a vacuum leak

So, are you saying there are NO clips that keep the distributor cap in place on the distributor body???

You might need a fuel pressure regulator. The solex needs only 1 1/2 to 2 lbs of pressure
    to work right.......
